At Pulsin, we’re always looking for new ways to improve our offering and help our customers reach their health and fitness goals. Our new Complete Vegan Protein Blend range of flavoured protein powders is the latest in a long line of product developments by the dedicated team of nutrition experts here at Pulsin HQ that helps us do just that!

There has been a massive shift in recent years towards plant based protein sources and the demand for vegan protein alternatives continues to grow. So, we wanted to significantly expand our plant-based protein range with new, exciting, and innovative products to cater for the evolving needs and preferences of health-conscious consumers. We’ve always strived to put ourselves at the forefront of the plant-based nutrition industry by aiming to produce both delicious and nutritious products, whether that be through our range of vegan protein powders or our range of vegan protein and snack bars.

WHY USE A BLEND OF PROTEINS?

FIRST, LET’S TALK ABOUT AMINO ACIDS…

As many vegans, those following a plant-based diet, anyone trying to eat less meat, or those interested in nutrition may already know, amino acids are required to synthesise body protein. There are 22 amino acids in total and our bodies naturally produce 13 of them, which means we need to get the other nine amino acids from external sources – i.e. from protein in foods. These nine amino acids are known as essential amino acids and you can get them from a variety of foods that contain protein.

Many different foods and drinks that provide a source of protein have some of these essential amino acids but not all food and drink containing protein provide all nine essential amino acids together. If a protein does contain all nine essential amino acids, it is referred to as a complete protein, meaning that it has a complete amino acid profile, containing all nine essential amino acids our bodies require to synthesise protein.

Now, it is not essential to consume complete proteins all the time to get all nine amino acids into your body – you can consume multiple incomplete proteins (proteins that contain some but not all nine essential amino acids) over the course of the day, as long as you get a balance of all nine essential amino acids. You can combine multiple incomplete proteins that provide a full amino acid profile, known as complementary proteins, in order to meet your needs. For example, two complementary proteins you could combine to give yourself a complete amino acid profile could be a simple dish of brown rice and beans, lentils, or chickpeas. The thing is, you need to either know which proteins are complementary or be willing to learn which incomplete proteins contain which amino acids in order to guarantee that you consume all nine essential amino acids throughout the day.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHICH PROTEINS CONTAIN WHICH AMINO ACIDS?

Unless you’re a nutritionist or go down a nutritional rabbit hole, learning all you can about amino acids and which foods contain which ones, it is difficult to know how to consume all nine essential amino acids over the course of a day. This is why, sometimes, it’s easier to consume complete proteins to guarantee you get all nine essential amino acids.

The trouble is, the richest food sources for complete proteins are animal proteins, including fish, dairy, and eggs. Which is why for vegans, vegetarians, and anyone following a more plant-based diet, it is often essential to consume complementary proteins or a good balance of incomplete proteins to get a complete amino acid profile in a day. With a little planning, a well-balanced plant-based diet can provide all nine essential amino acids.

There are plant-based complete protein sources available, including soy (check out our Soya Protein Powder), buckwheat, hemp (view our Hemp Protein Powder), chia seeds, quinoa, tempeh, and spirulina, but sometimes it’s just easier to supplement your diet in order to ensure your body gets the nutrients it needs to meet your health and fitness goals.

This is why we have chosen a blend of complementary protein sources to provide a complete amino acid profile in one handy, great-tasting product – or, rather, a range of products: the Complete Vegan Protein Blend!

By blending high-quality pea protein, faba protein and pumpkin seed protein we are able to produce a range of protein powders that all provide a full, balanced, and complete amino acid profile that will support your nutritional needs and assist muscle recovery and growth.
