How To Bring Your A-game During The Winter Months
Picture this: it’s 6am, your alarm just went off, you wanted to get up and go for a run but it’s pouring with rain, freezing cold, and still dark outside! You press snooze and go back to sleep until you have to get up for work. Yep, we don’t blame you. Motivating yourself to stay on track with your fitness routine is so much harder in the winter months! That’s why our friends at Auro have written up some tips to keep you motivated in these colder, darker months and help push you through until the sun is shining again (whenever that may be).
1. Remind yourself of your goal
Whenever you are feeling demotivated and on the brink of giving up, remind yourself why you started this journey in the first place. Write down your goals and why they are important to you. Did you want to run a race? Boost your confidence? Lead a healthier lifestyle? What does it mean to you to be on this journey? You could even look back on your progress pictures to see how far you have come in your transformation and push yourself to keep going. Remember - summer bodies are built in winter, so keep on that grind and when the sun finally comes out it will be more than worth it.
2. You don’t have to face the cold weather
You don’t have to go out in the freezing cold to work out or trek in the rain all the way to the gym. With Auro, you can stay inside and work out in the comfort of your own home. All you need is a safe space to move about – this could be in your living room, bedroom, office space, wherever! You don’t need to splash out on expensive home gym equipment either. Auro have workouts that are tailored to you and the equipment you have to hand. Many Auro classes allow you to use objects around the home to assist you with your workouts; your water bottle becomes your kettlebell and your rucksack becomes your barbell and if you don’t want to use any equipment at all, that’s totally fine too, there’s something for everyone! However, if you do feel like facing the cold for an outdoor workout, or you want to brave it for an outdoor run, make sure you wrap up warm (yes, we are aware we sound like your mum!) and if you are working out in the early mornings or evenings when it is slightly darker, make sure you wear high visibility gear so passers-by can see you clearly. Thermal running leggings, hats, gloves and thermal fleeces are all great choices for working out in the winter months.
3. Beat the winter blues
I don’t know about you, but it can be a lot easier to feel down in the dumps in the winter months. The cold weather, the never-ending rain, the shorter days, it is totally understandable and normal to feel a little bit gloomier in these winter months. And this is exactly why exercising regularly is so important. When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins, which enhance your mood and bring positive feelings to your body. So, radiate those good vibes by just putting in 10 minutes work every day, whether this is a quick HIIT workout, some yoga or meditation, trust us, you will really feel a difference!
4. Join a challenge
Joining a challenge is a great way to stay on track, especially if there is the incentive of a prize at the end of the tunnel! This is great motivation and the feeling of success once you have completed it will bring you so much happiness. Not to mention, joining a challenge means you are within a mini community with others who are also taking part, which is a great way to make new friends and encourage one another. At Auro, we love a challenge! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Auro’s Christmas challenge and New Year’s challenges, there’ll definitely be some exciting goodies up for grabs!
