Here at Pulsin HQ our customers are the most important part of our business. Everything we do from crafting deliciously nourishing and naturally delicious products to ensuring that we only use gluten free ingredients is to ensure our customers have products that suit their own personal needs.
So, we were delighted to welcome one of our longest serving customers; Beth Davies to Pulsin HQ to give her an insight into the Pulsin way of life!
Pulsin was set up by three university friends; Ben, Nick and Simon back in 2007. At the beginning of their journey every product was hand crafted by the trio (usually in the middle of the night fuelled by the music of Lemon Jelly!) and they personally sold the products into many of the stores we still supply to today.
Beth began buying our products back in 2008 at one of these stores, before becoming so obsessed with our Energy Bomb product, she began buying in-bulk via phone (this was before the launch of the first website!).
Simon, one of our founding directors remembers speaking to her regularly whilst taking her orders and so when he noticed that she was still buying via our website, invited her to come and visit Pulsin HQ.
“Many Pulsin customers have been buying our products for years but few longer than Beth who has been buying Pulsin bars and protein powders since 2008.
Back then Ben, Nick and I would make a few hundred bars in a day painstakingly wrapped by hand in cellophane bags using a recipe hastily devised by Ben, probably on the train to a nutritional therapy lecture.
Now, in our 3rd factory we make anywhere up to 150,000 bars a day using our own state of the art equipment – and a few extra staff. The recipes have evolved a lot, but the principals are the same: tasty, healthy snacks with meaningful functional benefits.
In the days before we had an online shop Beth used to call up to order her bars and give us comprehensive feedback on the products. When she placed an order online recently I immediately recognised the name as was keen to hear what she had to say about our products as they are today. So, I invited her along to visit our Gloucestershire factory.
It turned out that Beth is vegan and really into healthy eating and loves experimenting with different superfoods and other functional foods. She had even healed her dog’s joint problems using turmeric! We had loads to talk about.
When it came to discussing our current range of products I was really pleased that after 10 years Beth still loves them for the same reasons she did 10 years ago – great tasting bars made from healthy functional ingredients.” – Simon, Pulsin Co-Founder and Managing Director
We arranged a packed day of activities, that involved a tour of the offices, the kitchen area as well as time in our test kitchen to create her own bar!
Beth started out her journey of Pulsin HQ by a tour of the offices, meeting members of the teams who process her online orders, process payments and buy the ingredients which go into her favourite bars.
Sales & Marketing Coordinator Zoe Corbett said, “I meet Pulsin customers at shows and events all the time and regularly chat to them on social media too. But it was fantastic after processing so many of Beth’s orders, to finally put a face to the name.”
Beth then sat down with Simon, one of the founding members and now managing director, to discuss the history of Pulsin. They discussed Beth’s love of the original Energy Bomb products and Simon explained that these were discontinued due to more stringent laws around the use of guarana and Protein Bars outselling these bars 3 to 1.
A lively discussion was had around the importance of a protein-packed breakfast with both Simon and Beth mentioning that they prefer liquid breakfasts utilising Pulsin Protein Powder.
Simon then led Beth around a tour of our kitchen area showing the journey of the raw ingredients, through to becoming bars and then onto being packaged. Beth was able to make some of team who make the bars and even spotted some of her favourite product; the Peanut Choc Chip Raw Choc Brownie!
After a quick lunch Beth headed to the Pulsin test kitchen to spend the afternoon with the Product Development Team making a bar. She chose to amend our Peanut Choc Chip Raw Choc Brownie by adding guarana and other superfoods to create a super-charged ‘G-Bomb’ which tasted delicious!
“Due to Beth’s background, we were able to discuss the nutritional details of our bar formulas in detail and experiment with these together to create an innovative and delicious twist on one of our best-selling brownies. It was really fantastic to meet such a loyal and enthusiastic customer.”, Research & Development Manager, Mark Creese explained.
After this action-packed day, she headed home with a bag of Pulsin products to enjoy!
